How to write a hit song – from Diane Warren

October 22, 2010

Interesting article especially that she works 7 days a week, 12 hours a day AND writes the lyrics and music TOGETHER.

How many hours are YOU putting into writing songs?

I always thought the best songs came that way!

  1. I always enjoy your information, Jennifer, and Diane Warren is truly a phenomenon. Regarding writing words and music simultaneously, the song can start out that way, but when you think about it, the second verse is never written that way. The music’s already there. I’m sure you already knew that, but I find songwriting students like to say to me that they can’t write words to music because they both come to them at the same time. I like to point out that every 2nd and 3rd verse is written words to music.
