Songwriting with Lady Antebellum & Nickelback = ??

June 28, 2010

You want to be successful?

Write an AMAZING song. (Note that I didn’t say a “great” song or a “good” song or an “ok” song)

Hit songs often come from being brutally honest. With yourself and with your audience.

YOU HAVE TO LET YOUR GUARD DOWN AND OPEN YOURSELF UP EMOTIONALLY if you want to connect with your audience.

“I’m a little drunk and I need you now….” http://www.elyricsworld.com/need_you_now_lyrics_lady_antebellum.html

Who hasn’t felt that way?

That lyric alone is relatable to many many people!

Even Nickelback writes some of the most heart wrenching lyrics. I heard this song on the ride home tonight and was shocked, yet impressed, that a band like Nickelback could touch me with their songwriting:

[CHORUS]

That I love you

I have loved you all along

And I miss you

Been far away for far too long

I keep dreaming you’ll be with me

and you’ll never go

Stop breathing if

I don’t see you anymore

Want fans? Well start by writing songs that TOUCH people, that appeal to their EMOTIONS. Let your guard down and let others in and I bet more people will be at your next gig!
